Mrs. Gerrie van Beek has been involved in swimming for the last 35 years, coaching in Dubai since 1995. She is a well known and recognised swimming coach throughout Dubai. Working within the swimming world has led Gerrie to follow many different coaching and teaching clinics which has in turn increased her capability as a swimming teacher. After many years of teaching in Dubai she finally had the opportunity to open her own swimming club in Dubai, with Head Coach Konstantin Bushmelev, in 2014.

Here's a small glimpse of our chat with her.

Mrs. Gerrie van Beek,
Co-Founder of High Performance Swimming Club

Describe your business tweet style (280 characters or less)?

High Performance Swimming wants to help all swimmers achieve their swimming goals! From teaching little ones how to swim, to coaching our elite swimmers to high level competitions, and everything in between.

What according to you, separates you from your competitors?

Our swimming club aims at providing high quality lessons with a focus on keeping swimmers moving and improving their technique and stamina. It is also important to us that young swimmers learn how to swim and be water safe and are not afraid to step out of their comfort zone. Our teachers come from all different international backgrounds and all have high level coaching experience.

How do you foresee for the next 10 years in your business?

The sports world has been becoming incredibly digitised over the past few years and I think this trend will continue. Events, competitions and registrations can now all be done online and I believe that eventually almost everything sports related will be found or communicated online.

Which book are you currently reading?

Shoe Dog by Phil Knight

How do you measure and celebrate success at work? 🎉

We organise swimming gala's for our swimmers and it's successful if everyone is happy, having a good time and enjoying their swimming experience.

We also measure success by the people who joined us through recommendations from their friends.

Your favourite interview question (while recruiting)? And why?

How much love do you have for swimming? - There is a delicate balance needed to be part of the swimming world in Dubai. It can be tough with minimal rewards so the passion for the sport is needed to be able to succeed and become a strong teacher or coach.
